Past Accomplishments The following presents a look back at major projects and accomplishments of WEDC:
WEDC provides a Commercial Building Improvmeent (CBI) Grant to Steinway Piano Gallery, located at 11550 W. North Avenue. (2007)
WEDC provides a Commercial Building Improvement (CBI) Grant to Il Mito Enoteca, located at 6913 W. North Avenue. (2007)
Easter Seals Kindcare of Southeastern Wisconsin purchases the newly-constructed 5,500 s.f. building at 7111 W. Center Street, concluding a partnership between WEDC, the City of Wauwatosa, and Spectrum Development Group. (2007)
WEDC concludes Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) management of a 15,000 s.f. office building rehabilitation at 6330 W. North Avenue. (2006)
WEDC develops an online East Town North Avenue Business Directory. (2006)
WEDC launches a new website. (2006)
WEDC developed a new Commercial Building Improvement Grant program to replace the former Facade Grant program. (2005)
WEDC hired the firm Vandewalle & Associates to complete a market study and redevelopment vision for the Burleigh Street Triangle. The City of Wauwatosa subsequently adopted the vision into the City's Comprehensive Plan and changed the zoning of the site to Business Planned Development to accommodate a mixed-use future for the property. (2005)
WEDC provided a CDBG grant to assist with the tenant build-out necessary to open Luna Spa at 7601 Harwood Avenue. The City of Wauwatosa provided additional financial resources through the Revolving Loan Fund. (2004-2005)
WEDC provided a CDBG grant to assist with the transformation of a former JC Penney Catalog Center to a JCP Logistics facility This successful property redevelopment retained 174 jobs and created 349 new jobs within the City of Wauwatosa (2002-2004)
The second Outpost Natural Foods store opened at 7000 W. State Street in March 2000. This $3.9 million project involved the acquisition and cleanup of a brownfield site, the construction of a "green" building, and the creation of 81 jobs. WEDC teamed with the City and Outpost to present the case for a $230,000 grant from the WI Department of Commerce Brownfield Program. Additionally, WEDC received Brownfield funding from Milwaukee County to assist with remediation. (2000)
The East Town Business and Property Inventory was completed in 2000 and updated in 2002. (2000/2002)
WEDC developed the first cooperative cable television ad campaign for local Wauwatosa businesses. (1998)
WEDC assisted with the acquisition and sale of the long vacant lot at the southwest corner of Watertown Plank Road and Mayfair Road. A new Medical College of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital clinic and office building was constructed on the property. (1998)
WEDC provided support for the completion of Harley-Davidson Avenue. (1998)
WEDC, LLC was formed to facilitate property acquisition. (1997)
WEDC received the Downtown Action Council Governor's Award for redevelopment of a building at N 60th Street and W North Ave, which now houses Discman and Tower Optical. (1997)
The first "Stroll the Avenue" was held in East Town along North Avenue from Wauwatosa Avenue to 60th Street. (1997)
The Bluemound Road Business/Property Owner Survey and Strategic Plan was completed. (1994)
WEDC’s first Business Retention Survey was developed. (1994)
The Arcade Building along W. North Avenue was adopted as the first major redevelopment project. (1993)
